Anxiety, can't sleep

Post by jennamarshall88 »

Hi,
I had surgery 4 weeks ago for an ectopic pregnancy in my left tube. I went to A&E with stomach pain only to find out I was pregnant and it was ectopic. It was the worst day of my life. I was ok the first couple of days in hospital before I had the surgery. But after the surgery I just became an emotional wreck.
Night time is the worst. I just sit and feel scared. How could something so serious be going on in my body and I didn't have a clue?
I have thrown myself back in to work too soon and am paying for it. I ended up back in A&E a couple of days ago with severe pain, it was suggested I went back to everything too soon. The whole experience of going back in to hospital gave me flashbacks and I was a shaking mess the whole time I was there (the whole 13hours)
I have two children who are keeping me distracted but I'm finding I keep going in to my own little world. I just don't know how long this is going to last for. I really need some sleep. I find even when I do sleep, I have nightmares.
Is anyone else experiencing this?! :(

Hi Jennamarshall88,,

I'm so sorry to hear what you have been through. An ectopic pregnancy is a devastating and frightening ordeal, and many feel anxiety during recovery. It must have been very difficult to find yourself back in hospital so soon after your surgery. Please remember, your ectopic was very recent and it is extremely important to look after yourself.

Most importantly, it's important to try not to feel guilty. There is nothing you did to cause the ectopic pregnancy.
Recovery from an ectopic pregnancy can take some time and is very individual. It’s very normal to feel a mix of emotions, and it’s incredibly important to look after yourself and take your time. You may want to speak to your Drs for referral and a look into Counselling or to contact your local Mind centres.

We can also arrange for you to speak to someone on our helpline at the number below. Many find it of comfort to speak to someone who has been through same thing and we can support you alongside the Counselling. You will also find more information for support on our website: http://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/emotional-impact/

Please do be kind to yourself and allow yourself all the time and space that you need to heal. We are here for you as long as you need.

With good wishes,

Michele

You can try drinking chamomile tea to sleep better :)
Or inhaling essential oil (like lavender, peppermint...) helps a lot!
