Can anyone relate PLEASE

Post by Tru1tobe »

Hello ladies,

I am hoping any one that has been through this experience can help me with some advice because i am really sad about this. I found out i was pregnant April 10th i schedule a visit with my doctor on April 20th i went they did pregnancy test it was positive and took blood work, went back today April 28th for a sonogram and to my eyes and the doctor's eyes we couldn't see anything no embryo no heartbeat they even did the vaginal sonogram and still nothing. They took my blood again and also looked at my prior blood result and my hcg level was 75 and the blood work i took today i got back the result and it went up to 162. I asked my doctor before leaving the hospital she said it's either my last period was miscalculated or i suffered a early pregnancy lost. My last day of my menstrual was march 10th that was the actual day my period came and ended on the 14th of march, i am not bleeding or spotting so i really don't know what's going on.

Any advice from anyone could really help.

Hello!
This exact thing happened to me, I had 6 scans before they found anything.. my hcg levels were rising (very slowly) and I also had bleeding. I went from being pregnant, to pregnancy of an unknown location, to potential miscarriage (because of the bleeding) to finally 3 weeks later finding that I had an ectopic pregnancy and I had surgery to remove. Dont let this scare you, it could be very early... whilst I was in tears in the early pregnancy unit a lovely lady told me they didnt see her son on the scan until 6 weeks.. there are many possibilities.. keep talking to your early pregnancy unit. Have they asked you to go back to do a further scan and bloods? Dont be frightened just make sure you keep an eye on any signs of pain or not feeling normal. I know exactly how you feel and telling you not to be frightened is stupid of me because I was. But those ladies in the maternity units are experts and they will help you and get you through this. If you need to talk I am here xxxx

Dear Tru1tobe,
I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.
Sadly I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your pregnancy.
When diagnosing an ectopic pregnancy, doctors use a combination of transvaginal ultrasound scanning and blood tests to check HCG levels. Usually scans take place at around six weeks gestation as there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo at around this time.
If scans are inconclusive, doctors would carry out a series of blood tests to check hCG levels to see if the numbers are rising as expected. However, in isolation, hCG tests only provide a part of the picture - declining levels indicate that a pregnancy has ended and will be miscarried. It can also possibly indicate an ectopic pregnancy that is "self-resolving". Also hCG levels rising by less than 66% over 48 hours means it is likely (but not certain) that it is ectopic. If levels rise normally, they suggest the pregnancy is implanted in the uterus. You may see from this that hCG levels only indicate certain possibilities and are not in themselves a definitive guide. A positive identification of an implanted embryo on a scan is usually needed before a final diagnosis/certainty that the pregnancy has implanted in the uterus. I presume your doctor's have suggested further tests for you.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, sadly I do have to remind you that if you are feeling pain which seems unusual and is concerning you and, in particular, if you experience any bleeding or spotting, it is better to get checked out to be on the safe side.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x
