Operation Wounds

Post by Lisyloo725 »

Hello lovely ladies.
I had my tube and the pregnancy within removed the day before yesterday, and I’ve just removed the dressings in the shower. They all look pretty much the same.
My question is: was the wound in your belly button by far the most sore of the three entry points?? Does anyone know what sort of size tools are inserted into each opening? Could this be why one is bigger/more painful?

I’m concerned because my belly button is not that great anyway (always been an outtie, and has a small hernia following two 10lb babies) and I’m worried that it’s not right.

Also - how long did it take before you could do the school run (walk) or similar, again?

Love and hugs for you and your recovery.

I think after about ten days mine stopped hurting, I did need an anti Biotic cream for the one in my belly button as it was becoming infected but that sorted it out in about four days. I’m three weeks post op and feel normal now!

Dear lisyloo725,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your queries but will try my best to help. Wounds can take a few weeks to settle and you should be able to manage discomfort with over the counter pain relief. If this is not the case or if your wound starts to discharge or become red around it or you develop a temperature, please seek medical advice as these can be signs of infection.

We have more advice on recovery from ectopic pregnancy and surgery here
https://ectopic.org.uk/patients/your-bo ... pregnancy/

Experiencing an ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you are in the early stages of recovery. Your body needs time to heal from your surgery which is in itself a gruelling task. You have also had to process the loss of your baby and been through an immense rollercoaster of emotions - all of this will take time to come to terms with.

You should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body's signals and pain and feeling tired are your body's signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.

Sending much love,
Karen x
