Post-IF and EP period problems

Post by Sushigirl »

I used to be a regular on these boards when I was TTC my son, who is now 8. I've also got a daughter who is 2, both through IVF (I had 11 goes in all, two salpingectomies, one very early miscarriage and one missed miscarriage along the way).

When I had my son I had an induction that ended up in an emergency section. With my daughter I had an elective section and was very lucky everything was ok as it turned out I had a lot of scar tissue from previous operations, which made the operation more tricky. During my last fresh IVF cycle the doc couldn't retrieve the eggs from one of my ovaries because it was surrounded with scar tissue.

Basically, since I had my daughter I've had bad PMS; I bloat to the point I look pregnant, insomnia, mood swings, hot flushes, nausea, bad skin, and just a general feeling of anxiety and doom (i'm now on antidepressants which help this, and for some other general pandemic related stuff). Then when AF does finally appear it's super heavy for the first 36-48 hours and I feel completely wiped out.

My GP ran a check on my hormones before the pandemic and I wasn't menopausal (I'm 39), and put me on the Pill, but I came off it because it made me feel sick and dizzy all the time, not just when I had PMS.

Can anyone shed any light on what it might be? I had wondered if repeated surgeries could make periods worse.

Good luck to everyone going through EPs and IF at the moment. I felt like it was neverending but got out of the hole eventually.

Dear Sushigirl,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses.
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your symptoms. They do sound hormonal and contraception can help settle out hormones. Although the pill you tried made you feel unwell there are others which may be better suited. I would however discuss your ongoing symptoms with a medical professional.

Sending much love,
Karen x
