Bad tummy 8 weeks after methotrexate

Post by Smerrett »

Hello all!

I wanted to see if anyone still had digestive side effects a long time after methotrexate?

I had mine 8 weeks ago but my bowels haven't been right since. The 2 weeks following the injection I had chronic diarrhoea which was really painful. Things are better but not totally back to normal.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm not sure if I should be back to taking folic acid now as maybe that might help!

Thanks xxx

Hi,

I had this around a similar time, I had two bouts of severe d&v in the months following and they were off in between too, they resolved after about 4 months for me.

I checked with my EPU when to restart my folic acid but was told not to for 3 months following discharge form them, not sure on the NICE guidance?

Dear Smerrett,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your queries. Tummy upsets and diarrhoea are side effects of methotrexate however if they aren't settling or worsening, please seek medical advice.
You can restart folic acid once your hCG levels have fallen to below 5mIU/mL (your doctor will advise you when this is through blood tests) and then take a folic acid supplement for 12 weeks before you try to conceive.
Sending much love,
Karen x
