Methotrexate

Post by Sazzles »

So I am on my 2nd ectopic in 7 months. Last time was expectant management as my blood levels were so low. This time I was given methotrexate.

I had my injection on Tuesday and this morning woke up in agony. Not sure if it's because I am constipated or that i am in extreme danger.

I know I cant have a hot bath or shower but can I have a hot water bottle? I am really uncomfortable.

I had a horrendous time in epu so dont really want to go back unless absolutely necessary.

Any advice appreciated.

If you are in agony then you really need to go to a&e. It’s normal to feel some pain, cramping and discomfort which pain relief and hot water bottle can take away but when you are in AGONY then that warrants an investigation. I hope by now you’ve gone to hospital to get yourself checked out. Keeping my fingers crossed that it’s nothing sinister x

Hi Sazzles,

I just wanted to check in on you. As TryAgain92 mentioned, it's very important to monitor your symptoms while on methotrexate and to go to A&E with any severe pains, especially radiating to the shoulder tip. It is better to be seen in these cases. As your hcg levels are not to non-pregnant levels, there remains a risk of rupture. I hope you are feeling better and that you've been seen.

With good wishes,

Michele

Hi, thank you for your comments. I called the unit and they saw me. All is fine at the moment. Am back in tomorrow for my day 4 bloods.
No sign of a rupture which is good news.
Thanks for the advice.

I am doing ok thank you. On day 10 now and the bleeding has started again. I had a 2 day bleed on days 5 and 6, before that bleed and this one I had what can only be described as contractions. They come and go. Bloods on day 7 were down to 150, so clearly going in the right direction, having another test on day 14 which is tuesday.

I have to say this process has been made a lot easier having this forum to read and ask questions.

Thank you all again x

I know this post is old, but I’m wondering why we can’t have hot baths or showers after methotrexate? Iv been having hot baths to help with cramping I didn’t know we weren’t supposed to!

Dear Elles,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
I am not sure why you have been told.specifically not to have not baths or showers. My own thoughts are a side effect of methotrexate is dizziness and a bit bath or shower can cause dizziness for some people, so the 2 together may increase your risk.of.being dizzy or fainting which is not something you would want to happen in a bath. I would how's clarify with the person who told you this and if you don't mind updating us with the reason in case there is any medical reason we aren't aware of.
Sending much love,
Karen x
