Looking for support please

Post by Acampb70 »

Back in march I was delighted to find out I was pregnant but a few weeks later I got the devastating news that I had a pregnancy in an unknown location. On 13th April I had methotrexate and I’ve just found my mental health has really been impacted. To begin with my hcg levels weren’t coming down at the rate they were expecting then they increased however the last few blood results have shown that they are falling. My latest results yesterday showed a 37% drop from the last so I’m now down to 136. Although this is positive news my anxiety seems to be getting worse. I’ve had health related anxiety for a number of years now and I’m finding everyday a struggle. I’m so scared of a rupture or internal bleeding and it just feels like such a long process. Has anyone else had the methotrexate? Do the risks of anything happen get lower as the hcg levels decrease? How did you keep strong throughout the process? Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Dear Acampb,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
I can truly understand the worrying time you are going through. While methotrexate is a good treatment as it is not as invasive as surgery, it can certainly be a long drawn out process.
While there is still a risk of rupture with low and declining levels it is very uncommon for rupture to happen when levels are decreasing as well as yours so please take some comfort in knowing they are going in the right direction.
I too bad methotrexate and I remember vividly feeling like a time bomb waiting to go off, but my declining level at each blood test did start to ease my mind a little and your levels are in the low hundreds now meaning rupture is very unlikely.
I really wish I could speed up time for you. Try to keep your mind occupied, go for gentle walks, read, watch his sets. Some people also advocate journaling your feelings as a release to write down everything that is going on in your head.
If you are struggling with your anxiety still, you can always speak to your GP, we also have others ways in which you can contact us from emails to telephone calls (details below), we will be here on this forum to support you for as long as you need also.
For now, be kind to yourself, allow time to recover both physically and emotionally, take comfort in your blood results, knowing the are on the right path.
Sending much love and warm hugs,
Karen x
