So many questions after ectopic

Post by Wanderer26 »

I was diagnosed with an ectopic last friday and had dose 1 of methotrexate the same day as my levels were creeping up. My blood tests between day 4 and 7 only reduced by 9% so had to have another dose today. This pregnancy was my first ivf cycle as I am 42 years old, and now I have to wait 6 months before I can try again. This takes me to 3rd December and my 43rd birthday is 24th January. Does anyone know if I will still be in time to use one of my frozen embryos and try again? I know it states treatment must comnence before 43rd birthday but I would have to wait for my period, and injections can take nearly a month, so Im worried I wont get another go. Does anyone have any experience of being this age and falling so close to ivf deadlines? I am also due to go on holiday in 9 days time which I really need after all this, am I safe to fly if my levels are coming down next week?

Dear Wanderer,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss, especially after everything you are going through.
The EPT recommends waiting for 3months not 6 after having 2 injections. I would have an open and honest conversation with your fertility specialist about timings and use of eggs. If they do stick to 6 months, they may have a special waiver for ladies in your situation who through no fault of their own cannot proceed with further IVF due to their imposed time delays.

Sadly I cannot be more precise as this is not our area of expertise, but I hope you get some answers soon.

Sending much love,
Karen x
