Wound care

Post by aminazaidi83 »

Hi, I had a live ectopic and had surgery 4 days ago with the tube removed and pregnancy tissue. I was so drowsy post op that I really can't remember what to with my stitches. I had laproscopy with 3 keyhole incisions and these were covered with a strong waterproof dressing. I was told the stitches would dissolve over time. I have had a number of showers and the dressing still looks well intact and the wound site has not got wet. Now I don't know if after 4 days I should take the dressing off and let it air a bit or should I keep it covered. I was given fresh waterproof dressings but have not needed to change them yet. I will call the hospital to check but not sure how helpful they will be so thought would post here as others have been through similar. Hope someone can help please. I am feeling generally much better with mild pain now but still I'm very tired and my stomach is still very swollen looking, hoping this is all normal.

Dear aminazaidi,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
I have added information from our website about how to care for your wounds which I hope will help. I would advise removing your dressings now and leaving them uncovered it they are dry. You can shower but I wouldn't soak in a bath until they are healed

Generally speaking, should take it very easy for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time so please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others. One day you may be okay and the next you may be in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body signals. Pain and feeling tired are your body signals to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy diet drinking lots of water and resting.
Above all be kind to yourself and allow time to heal both physically and emotionally,
Sending much love,
Karen x
