Plateauing/Increasing HCG - 2nd dose of MTX

Post by fiico »

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation? Non viable pregnancy of unknown location diagnosed and treated with methotrexate. Needed a second dose which appeared to be effective. Bloods have been declining but then plateauing as the numbers got lower, then last week increased. I was so close as well! Obviously I appreciate this isn't the place to receive medical advice but I'm just wondering if anyone has had this or similar happened and what happened next? I’m waiting to hear what the next steps are at the moment from the hospital as they have sent the sample away for 'independent analysis'.

Second dose:
Approx 4500 day 1
3288 day 4
2315 day 7
618 day 14
124 day 21
74 day 28
58 day 35
32 day 42
18 day 49
17 day 56
12 day 63
15 day 70

Thanks for taking the time to read/respond.

Dear fiico,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
It can be common for hCG levels to plateau during treatment, which can be very frustrating. Occasionally we hear of them rising and falling again, however if they continue to rise, you will need to be reviewed more closely by your medical team.
I am sure you are doing this already, but make sure you are not taking any supplements, especially folic acid, do not drink alcohol or take medications such as ibuprofen and if your levels continue to rise, please seek urgent medical advice with any worsening bleeding or pain or you feel dizzy and unwell.
Sending much love and keeping everything crossed your levels start to decrease again,
Karen x
