Words of Wellbeing - Baby Loss Awareness Week 2021

27 Sep 2021 | By Kerri

Baby Loss Awareness Week is a time when people across the country come together to support those whose lives have been affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

You can read more about both our work and that of other charities and organisations on the Baby Loss Awareness Alliance website.

This year's theme is Wellbeing

Wellbeing is a topic that means different things to different people. We want to explore what wellbeing means to people from all walks of life who have been affected by ectopic pregnancy and pregnancy loss.

We understand that this can often be an intense week of discussion about loss and high emotions – but it is also a time full of support, love, acknowledgement and expression.

Engaging with our own wellbeing and, at the same time, helping others by writing letters

Baby Loss Awareness Week is about hearing your stories.

For BLAW 2021, we invite you to share personal stories and words of comfort from those who have been affected by ectopic pregnancy and reach out to others to do the same.

What would you write?

Whether it’s a letter to yourself, to your partner, a workmate or even someone who cared for you in hospital – what would you like to say about your experience, about what worked for you, what didn’t work and perhaps what to avoid?

Each day throughout the week, we will be publishing personal accounts, experiences, and expressions across both our website and social media channels.

We want to open up the conversation for those who feel able to talk about it, tackling the stigma, and remind people that they are not alone, however isolated they feel.

If you’d like to get involved, we would be grateful to you for sharing your thoughts with us.

How to get involved

  • Pick who you would like to write to – see our letter ideas on our dedicated Words of Wellbeing page on our website
  • Start your letter with “Dear…”
(please note, real full names will not be published by our team, but we know that writing the name can be helpful in this process)
  • Feel free to be creative – so many of us have chosen different ways to express themselves, from song, to video, to poetry – don’t feel that letters are the only way to do this
  • It can be as long or as short as you wish
  • Share your letter with our team via kerri@ectopic.org.uk

Words of Wellbeing is a way for you to express yourself as freely as you wish. We aim to use your words to share selected content on our social media channels and website but unfortunately may not be able to share everyone’s experience. We may need to edit for sense/confidentiality and will only use first names or initials for your privacy. Please note that any letters sent to us will not be forwarded to any doctors/hospitals/organisations. Our support services are available and includes information on finding qualified professional counsellors/therapists.
