Setting up social media accounts - a guide for fundraisers

Personal Facebook profile: 
We have set up dedicated Facebook groups that our fundraisers are welcomed to join for support, tips and motivation throughout your event/challenge and as a place to celebrate your generous efforts. To join the groups, or to create any other Facebook pages/group, you first need a personal Facebook account.
To create a Facebook account:
  • Go to and click Create New Account.
  • Enter your name, email or mobile phone number, password, date of birth and gender.
  • Click Sign Up.
  • To finish creating your account, you need to confirm your email or mobile phone number.
  • You can view and adjust your privacy settings at any time. To view and adjust your privacy settings:
    • Click account in the top right of Facebook.
    • Select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
    • Click Privacy in the left column.
    For other things you share on Facebook, you can select the audience before you share. Learn more about basic privacy settings and tools on Facebook.

Facebook Group:

Facebook groups allow you control over who you wish to view your progress and updates as you can choose to make your group private or public. You can send invites to any or all of your friends list to join the group to offer you support and encouragement on your fundraising journey.

To create a Facebook Group:

  • Go to
  • Enter your group name.
  • Select the privacy option. If you selected private, select whether to make your group visible or hidden.
  • Add people to your group.
  • Click Create.
  • Key Tips
    • Use your group’s description to explain what your group is about.
    • Upload a cover photo; if you would like to use one of The EPT graphics please email and we can send you images.
    • Make a post in the group to welcome members.
    • Write your group’s rules to help members know what is and is not allowed.

Facebook Page:

Pages can be used to share your fundraising progress and connect with people. Like profiles, Pages can be customized with stories, events and more. People who like or follow a Page can get updates in their News Feed.

To create a Facebook Page:

  • Go to
  • Click to choose a Category.
  • Fill out the required information.
  • Click Create Page.
  • Add an optional profile or cover photo, then click Save.
Note: Anyone can create a Page, but only official representatives can create a Page for an organization, business, brand or public figure.





Instagram has become a very popular platform and many of our fundraisers share their journey on their accounts as a way of connecting with their supporters, other fundraisers and The EPT account.

To create an Instagram account using an Android or IOS device: 

  • Download the Instagram app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
  • Once the app is installed, tap instagram to open it.
  • Tap Sign Up With Email or Phone Number (Android) or Create New Account (iPhone), then enter your email address or phone number (which will require a confirmation code) and tap Next. You can also tap Log in with Facebook to sign up with your Facebook account.
  • If you register with your email or phone number, create a username and password, fill out your profile info and then tap Next. If you register with Facebook, you’ll be prompted to log into your Facebook account if you’re currently logged out.



If you love filming your journey then TikTok could be the ideal platform for you! The EPT recently joined TikTok and we are enjoying watching the short videos created by our fantastic and creative fundraisers and supporters.

To create a TikTok account:

  • Download TikTok from Google Play or the App Store.
  • Open the app.
  • Tap Profile in the bottom right.
  • Choose a method to sign up.
    Note: Make sure your email and phone number are valid as they are needed for log in and password recovery.

To create a new video:

  • Tap + at bottom of the screen.
  • Upload content from your device Library or use the TikTok camera.
  • Add Sounds, Effects, Filters, or other camera tools.
  • Start your video by pressing the Record button.
  • Record your content.
  • Tap the check mark.
  • Make additional edits on the post page.
  • Post your video!

Hashtags and Tagging

Each EPT fundraising event has our own personalised hashtags to help the charity and others find your content, and we encourage fundraisers to tag the official charity accounts if you would like to have your content shared.
