Kevin and Alex's Story

We started IVF (a medical procedure whereby an egg is fertilized by sperm in a test tube or elsewhere outside the body) nine years ago and never really had any success. About 18 months ago, we heard about an IVF doctor in Greece who was meant to be excellent so we had a consultation with him and finally we managed to get pregnant. We were devastated to lose our first pregnancy to miscarriage and, once my wife was feeling more like herself, we decided to go back and try one more time.

The second time, we opted to transfer two beautiful embryos to help increase our chances. We were delighted to discover we were expecting again. At 7 weeks, we paid for an early scan, keen to find out if we were having twins! The sonographer had a hard time picking anything up on the scan so we went to the Early Pregnancy Unit for more tests. After a few days, they told us that our pregnancy was ectopic and my wife would need methotrexate injections (medical management) to dissolve the pregnancy. After everything we had been through, it was just too cruel. They gave us a booklet written by The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and it was full of useful information and answered a lot of questions. In addition, the forum on their website was a godsend as we had a lot more questions and worries after the procedure was done.

Even after 11 weeks, my wife is still recovering and now having some other health issues due to the IVF drugs she was taking.

Sadly that marks the end of our fertility journey as we navigate life as a family of two (and a very spoiled chihuahua).

Chase the Sun

I started in the last 8 and managed to finish second with a time of 12 hours and 38 minutes!  I wore the names of both our babies on my EPT shirt.

I’m really happy that I’ve managed to raise £744 with £156 gift aid, so £900 total.

Our huge thanks goes out to Kevin and for bravely sharing their story, raising much needed funds and awareness.
