Megan's Story
I experienced an ectopic pregnancy last September which resulted in me losing our baby and my tube, I had a slow rupture for a week before the doctors decided to treat me, it was a fight to get the surgery as the doctors were all advising different things, I didn’t have the best experience with doctors which made everything a lot worse. When I came out of hospital I researched a lot into ectopic pregnancies and used the charity to read about other people’s experiences and feelings. It helped me a lot with the emotional side of it and helped to validate the way I was feeling. It only felt right to try and raise some money and awareness for the charity because I feel it’s something that is not spoken about unless you know someone who has experienced an ectopic pregnancy.
We built up our training over the months leading up to the run and tried to run further each time. The run on the race day was the first time I had managed to do the full 5k. We were all nervous on the day but once we got going, the nerves went and we knew why we were running.
The Heaton Park 5k was a challenge at parts but once we had completed it, we felt amazing. Me and Elizabeth finished it in 47 minutes, and Kirsten finished it in 36 minutes.
Our thanks goes out to Megan, Liz and Kirsten for their amazing work taking on this 5k, raising much needed funds and awareness.
