Stuart's story
Stuart recently took on the challenge of the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, raising funds and awareness for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. He generously shared his story with us – in his own words:
“I aimed to try and complete in around 5 hours and it took me 5 hours 14 minutes, so I was happy with that.
It was a very brilliant experience crossing the finishing line.
The reason I chose this charity is that I seen the effect an ectopic pregnancy had on myself and my partner. Being a male it’s not really something I had heard about or had much awareness of until we were actually in the situation.
It all happened so quickly – I was actually travelling offshore to go to work when my partner complained of stomach pains, and within around 4 hours she was being taken into theatre to have a Fallopian tube removed. At this point, luckily, my boss had managed to sort me a flight home from Heathrow to Aberdeen so I could be back for her waking up from the operation.
The doctor said that it was lucky we came up when we did as the situation may have been even worse.
I feel like The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust does amazing work and hopefully these stories can raise awareness and give support to people that have experienced something similar.”
We’re so grateful to Stuart for sharing his experience and for walking in support of others who’ve been affected by ectopic pregnancy. His story is a powerful reminder that this is something that can impact anyone, and that open, honest conversations – especially from partners – can be a lifeline for those going through it.
