Our incredible Great North Run team have trained through the hot Summer weather to get to the start line on Sunday 7 September and we cannot thank them enough for their commitment and generosity in choosing to support The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust.
With each runner having their own personal reasons for taking part, we hope that when they put on their EPT tops on the 7 September and make their way to the start line, it will serve as a powerful reminder that they have an entire community supporting them with every step that they take.
You can watch coverage of the Great North Run-on BBC One from 10am (UK time) on Sunday 7 September.
Meet the team
Some of our 2025 team have generously shared their reason for taking to North East in September.
George

As a couple, my wife and I have supported the charity since we lost our baby to an ectopic pregnancy in 2015. I hadn’t heard of an ectopic pregnancy before so trying to process what had happened, the loss of a baby, and coming very close to losing my wife, was overwhelming. The EPT took some of that stress away with reliable information on their website.
In 2023 I had the opportunity to say thank you in London, crossing that finish line was emotional on so many levels. The next race I wanted to complete was the Great North Run and was luck to do so in 2024. This year marks ten years since our ectopic pregnancy and there is no other shirt I can see myself wearing as proudly as The EPT one while back in Newcastle. Being a part of Team EPT is special. Knowing that while we have all been training for this day miles apart, but will all run the same route through Newcastle, is quite symbolic – we all have our own reasons for running, but on 7 September our paths will meet in a united show of support, understanding and community. I also get to run alongside my childhood friend and training buddy, Dave, adding an extra level!

Dave

A friend of mine, George, and his wife Kerri were affected by an ectopic pregnancy ten years ago and have since been involved in fundraising for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. In 2020 George took on the virtual London Marathon and I joined him for the last few miles of his journey. I was impressed (I thought he was mad actually!!) that he did so with only a month’s training under his belt and no previous running experience.
I have since taken on the London Marathon myself for The EPT, and then the opportunity for myself and George to run The Great North Run in 2024 presented itself. I am looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere in Newcastle for a second time alongside the rest of The EPT team.

Liam

My reason for running the Great North Run for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust is because they are a fantastic charity who work very hard providing support for so many women and families. I want to be able to raise some money to help support those going through those tough times.

Charlie

On January 11th 2025, we unfortunately lost our baby due to an ectopic pregnancy, a baby that we had longed for for over 4 years. During the grief of this loss, The Ectopic Pregnancy was our beacon for support and guidance and we owe them the recognition and fundraising that they deserve. I will be running the Great North Run in honour of our baby who was due on September 7th, the day of the run. It will be an incredibly emotional run, but a special way to honour our baby.

Mary

I am running the Great North Run for our little miracle who we lost to an ectopic pregnancy in 2018. Running has helped me so much through multiple pregnancy losses as a way to find the strength each day to wake up with the sunrise and pop my trainers on. The EPT have supported Ben and I through so much and it is an honour to be able to run for such a wonderful charity and continue to raise awareness.
Ben

This is my sifth GNR and second time getting through the ballot having ran for the amazing EPT charity in the previous two years.
I have chosen to continue to support The EPT as they have been a great deal of support to Mary and I since we had our ectopic pregnancy, before that day I hadn’t heard of this.
We will continue to raise awareness for this wonderful charity.

Kristina

In 2020 in the midst of Covid lockdowns myself and my husband were told that we were experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. Going through all the emotions and excitement of getting our first positive pregnancy test, our world shattered when sadly I had to have emergency surgery and lost one of my Fallopian tubes as a result. Due to the Covid restrictions I had to go through the whole thing alone in hospital.
The EPT was such a support during those dark days alone in hospital. I knew very little about ectopic pregnancy until sadly I experienced it and found The EPT.
I’m doing the Great North Run to raise money for such a vital charity, and help spread the word so that more people are educated on the risks associated with ectopic pregnancy.

We wish our Great North Run 2025 team the very best of luck on Sunday 7 September. The generosity of our fundraisers and donors ensures that the charity can continue it’s vital work at no cost to those who need our support and resources.
