Matt, Luke & Ross take on a Tough Mudder for The EPT

Matt's Story

We decided to raise money for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust as in September last year, my partner suffered an ectopic pregnancy and was left in a very bad state, having to have an ambulance come out for her and take her to hospital.

She went undiagnosed for the first 8 hours of being in hospital, and finally after many litres of blood loss internally and lots of pain, she was operated on around 14 hours after the original call to 111. Then there was of course the recovery period after this, emotionally as well as physically.

This made me think, as I had never even heard of an ectopic pregnancy before this – and how many people are in the same boat?

Katie ended up losing a Fallopian tube on top of everything else, so I think that this is a charity that needs more publication. People certainly need to know about ectopic pregnancy, as it can happen to anyone.

As for Tough Mudder – I’d say the obstacle that nearly broke us was the electroshock therapy at the end. Throughout the entire day we were all stressing about that. Luke and Ross both got a zap, but I managed to come away unscathed somehow, so was happy with that!

It took us far longer than we expected, however I think that’s mainly due to the wait times at different obstacles and also taking ages at the energy stations.

Thank you Matt, Luke, and Ross for sharing your story and taking on such a tough challenge in support of The EPT. We’re so grateful for your fundraising and for helping raise awareness of ectopic pregnancy in such a powerful way. You’ve made a real difference.

If Matt, Luke, and Ross have inspired you to take on a challenge of your own and support our work, we’d love to hear from you. Visit our fundraising page, or get in touch with our Fundraising and Campaigns Co-ordinator, Kerri, who’s always happy to help and guide you: kerri@ectopic.org.uk
