Skydiving for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust

Dan's Story

Back in 2021, my wife had an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in the loss of one of her Fallopian tubes. At the time, it felt like all hope for having a baby was gone. She found a lot of comfort in what The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust offered, especially the virtual flower tribute, where we could honour our baby.

In 2023, we were overjoyed to fall pregnant again and this time, everything went well. We welcomed a beautiful little girl into the world, whom we named Arabella.

Hoping to have two children close in age, we started trying again soon after. My wife fell pregnant a few months ago and we were over the moon. But sadly, our dreams were shattered once more when we found out it was another ectopic pregnancy. The hospital tried to act quickly to save her remaining Fallopian tube, but unfortunately, it was too late and it had to be removed.

Once again, my wife turned to The EPT for support to help us cope with what we were going through.

That’s why I decided to raise money and awareness for the charity – by doing something a bit outrageous: jumping out of a plane. I was joined by my brother and my mum, who’s in her 60s, and we all completed the skydive together.

While we were there, one of the skydiving instructors told us his wife had also experienced an ectopic pregnancy not long ago, but they didn’t know The EPT existed. He said he’d go home and tell her about the charity. Even if we only helped one person that day by pointing them in the right direction, it was worth it.

The skydive was amazing – freefalling really is a feeling like no other. I’m going to keep sharing our story in the hope of raising even more awareness and funds for the vital work The EPT does.

Thank you, Dan, for sharing your family’s story with such honesty and heart. Your courage, and the support of your mum and brother, means so much. By raising funds and awareness, you’re helping others find comfort, information, and hope when they need it most. We’re so grateful to have you as part of our community.

If Dan has inspired you to take on a challenge of your own and support our work, we’d love to hear from you. Visit our fundraising page, or get in touch with our Fundraising and Campaigns Co-ordinator, Kerri, who’s always happy to help and guide you: kerri@ectopic.org.uk
