Ectopic Pregnancy Awareness Day: “It Still Seems Like Yesterday”

23 Jul 2025 | By Kerri

How ectopic pregnancy has shaped my life

The (ectopic pregnancy) rupture not only took the life of my baby, but it almost claimed my own. The physical trauma was life-threatening, but the emotional scars have been just as deep. Knowing that I can no longer have children has been an ongoing source of pain and grief – a silent loss of a future I once imagined.

Yet, from this heartbreak, I have found a deeper strength and purpose in my work within mental health. I use my own experience of profound loss to empathise with and support others navigating the darkness of their own grief.

This experience has changed me, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. It has taught me that it’s okay to mourn what you never got to hold, and that healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means honouring the love that was there, even if only for a short time.

August marks a year since the day my life changed forever, yet it still seems like only yesterday.
