Multiple ectopic pregnancies in three years

08 Sep 2025 | By Helen

My first pregnancy was textbook and resulted in our beautiful little boy who is now five.

In 2023 we tried again. I fell pregnant quickly but then unfortunately showed signs of miscarriage in October 2023. I was advised to get checked out so was booked into the EPU (early pregnancy unit) for the following week.

Before I could make my appointment, my Fallopian tube ruptured. I had no idea what was happening but was rushed to theatre. Fast forward six months and we felt ready to try again.

Once again, I fell pregnant quickly. An early scan showed things were in the right place, we could relax!

Due to my anxiety the hospital agreed to scan me again the following week. Between these appointments I showed signs of a miscarriage again. I went to the second scan expecting to have lost my pregnancy, but it was confirmed that there was a mass in my remaining Fallopian tube. When they said the words “you are experiencing another ectopic pregnancy” for a minute my world froze, then the panic attack started. I was given expectant management care, even though I requested methotrexate. By the time doctors agreed to administer the medication 10 days later it was too late and my last Fallopian tube ruptured on 4th July 2024.

Emergency surgery number two happened. The trauma I felt was unbelievable.

Our only option now was IVF (invitro fertilisation).

We commenced this in 2025, after a long process we got a positive test in August 2025. 5 days after the positive test I experienced very similar pain to the ectopic, it was horrendous so I attended A&E (accident and emergency). I was sent to EPU (early pregnancy unit) who were questioning scar tissue ectopic pregnancy amongst other things.

Surgery revealed a ruptured cyst and internal bleeding. This was resolved but the pregnancy was lost. We are unsure if the two things were linked or two unfortunate incidents but for the third time in three years our dreams were shattered. I am healing physically but mentally it is harder.

Through the ectopic pregnancy trust Facebook page, I have connected with somebody who has been through similar and find this support so useful.

A group I never wanted to be part of but have found comforting knowing I’m not alone.

If I could say one thing: Listen to your body. If something feels off, push to be seen. Also, now, you may be in the trenches, but it gets better. You are strong and amazing
