Natalie's poem after four pregnancy losses

30 Jul 2024 | By Kerri
Very sadly, Natalie is no stranger to the devastation of pregnancy loss. Having first experienced a tubal ectopic pregnancy in November 2013, treated with methotrexate, when she fell pregnant again this sadly resulted in a miscarriage the following February. In April 2017 another tubal ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed and treated surgically, which resulted in the removal of her right Fallopian tube. In June 2017 she suffered a further miscarriage.
The same October Natalie found out she was pregnant, resulting in the birth of her daughter. But the impacts of her pregnancy losses has stayed with her, and she took to writing to share her own feelings and offer hope to others:
Here’s a little story of what happened to us,
You keep it bottled up inside, don’t want to make a fuss.
We planned to start a family, it’ll be easy enough I’m sure,
You’ve taken a lot of precautions in all the years before.
And if you’re very lucky you’ll see lines on the test,
Wow this is amazing this truly is the best.
We can’t wait meet you, we wonder what you’ll be,
And then a few weeks later oh it wasn’t meant to be.
There’s nothing we can do, you’re not in the right place,
You have to be removed; a truth quite hard to face.
Next time will be better, but that wasn’t meant to be,
Then we got disheartened as it happened repeatedly.
We need to raise awareness, the statistics are all there,
We need to talk more openly, it’s something we should share.
Don’t keep it bottled up inside, if you need someone to hear,
All of the pain you’re going through I’ll gladly lend an ear.
We got our happy ending, it’s easier for us to say,
We hope if you are reading this you get yours too one day!
