“What I Wish More People Knew”: Jayne’s Story for Ectopic Pregnancy Awareness Day

20 Jul 2025 | By Kerri

What I wish more people knew about ectopic pregnancy is that it can kill you – not just your baby. I have never felt pain like it before, and I had no idea that shoulder pain could be linked to ectopic pregnancy. The first time I had one, I didn’t even know what an ectopic pregnancy was.

Why haven’t people still heard of it?

I’ve had two ectopic pregnancies now, and I still find myself having to explain what it means. The physical pain was awful, but the emotional impact stays with you. And on top of that, the comments people make can really hurt.

Please never say to someone, “It’ll happen one day,” or “You weren’t very far along.” It doesn’t matter. I had a positive pregnancy test. I saw a little heartbeat. That baby existed to me.

I am a mum to a baby, but my baby belongs in the sky with all the angels.
